Foley Hoag Supports Greater Boston Legal Services Annual Associates’ Drive

At last night’s celebration to mark the annual Associates’ Drive, Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) honored Foley Hoag for providing the largest total donation to the fund drive. Foley Hoag was one of six firms raising more than $10,000 for the organization. The annual drive supports GBLS and programs in its Family Law Unit.
Foley Hoag’s efforts this year were spearheaded by David Kluft, an associate at the firm, in conjunction with Vivian Coates, Will Hutchinson and Carrie Wicker, also associates at the firm. Also in attendance was GBLS board member and Foley Hoag Director of Marketing, Jeffrey Scalzi.
GBLS provides free civil (non-criminal) legal assistance to low-income people in Boston and thirty-one additional cities and towns ranging from legal advice to full case representation, depending on client need. Its staff of 72 attorneys and 25 paralegals is divided into areas of legal expertise to best address the problems faced by people living in poverty. A national leader in poverty law, GBLS also undertakes representation and legal advocacy to address the root causes of poverty.
Foley Hoag’s
pro bono program has been a pride of the firm since its representation of the plaintiffs in the original lawsuit to desegregate the Boston public schools. Almost two decades ago, the firm established a pioneering program in the field of domestic violence that makes ongoing and important contributions. Lawyers are encouraged to engage in
pro bono work and other community activities. In a typical year the firm handles approximately 100 matters and contributes approximately 20,000 hours to
pro bono causes.
