  • Junior Patent Prosecution Associate - Computer Science

    May 13, 2021

    Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property Department has an opening in our New York or Boston office for an associate who is a registered patent attorney with a background in Computer Science or a related field such as Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or Information Engineering.  We seek applicants with strong academic credentials, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and at least one year of patent prosecution experience.  The position will involve representation of a variety of technology companies, ranging from startups to the Fortune 500, in patent prosecution related to software inventions. 

    An M.S. or M.Eng. in a relevant field, or a B.S. in a relevant field plus significant industry experience is preferred.  A general understanding of artificial intelligence concepts is required.  Technical experience in the areas of machine learning, image analysis, cryptography, or software architecture would be particularly useful.  Applicants are expected to be registered patent attorneys or to have passed the USPTO examination with registration pending.

Experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the areas of small molecules, pharmaceuticals, synthetic methods, polymer science and drug discovery would be useful, but is not necessary.   • International Litigation and Arbitration Associate (Temporary)

    Foley Hoag’s internationally recognized International Litigation and Arbitration Practice has an immediate opening for a junior to mid-level associate in our Washington, DC office, for a six-month period (with the possibility, but not the guarantee, of an extension).  The individual must be able to work remotely for at least the initial six-month tenure.  We seek applicants with experience in investor-state arbitration and/or international commercial arbitration cases.  Preference will be given to candidates with a knowledge of procedures before the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and/or the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).  Spanish fluency required, and native Spanish fluency preferred.  Additional strong foreign language skills are also a plus.  Principals only; we are not accepting applications from recruiters for this position.
