    Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property Department has an opening in our Boston or New York office for an associate who is a registered patent attorney with a Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology or immunology.

    We seek applicants with strong academic credentials, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and at least four years of prior patent prosecution experience, preferably patent prosecution experience gained after graduation from law school. Experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the areas of molecular biology, immunology, immunooncology, genetics, and agricultural biotechnology would be particularly useful.

  • International Litigation and Arbitration Associates

    Foley Hoag’s internationally recognized International Litigation and Arbitration Practice has openings for senior-level and junior to mid-level associates.

    We seek applicants with a minimum of two years of experience in public international law, international commercial arbitration and/or investor state arbitration cases.  Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of procedures before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and/or the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), as well as to those with strong foreign language skills (preferably Spanish). Successful candidates will be subject to a critical assessment after a 6-month period.

  • Patent Agent / Technology Specialist - Computer Science

    Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property Department has an opening in our New York or Boston office for a Patent Agent or Technology Specialist with a background in Computer Science or a related field such as Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or Information Engineering.  We seek applicants with strong academic credentials and excellent verbal and written communication skills.  The position will involve representation of a variety of technology companies, ranging from startups to the Fortune 500, in patent prosecution related to software inventions. 

    An M.S. or M.Eng. in a relevant field, or a B.S. in a relevant field plus significant industry experience is preferred.  A general understanding of artificial intelligence concepts is required.  Technical experience in the areas of machine learning, image analysis, cryptography, or software architecture would be particularly useful. 

    Both entry-level and experienced candidates will be considered. A successful candidate who is not a registered patent agent will be expected to take and to pass the USPTO registration exam within a year of being hired.  Candidates are encouraged to review the USPTO eligibility criteria prior to applying.

    The Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring the continuous and reliable operation of the firm’s voice, data and internet networks in order to provide maximum performance and availability for the firm.  The role is responsible for maintaining and administering all networking hardware, network services, and network management software. The Network Engineer provides advanced technical support for voice, data and internet network systems, creates and maintains network documentation, ensures network systems are highly available and compliant with current industry best practices, and acts as a network resource for other firm projects as needed.

    The Network Engineer will need a strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware. He/she must be able to apply this information correctly when reviewing PTO submissions to ensure we are meeting the requirements set in the respective communications.
