  • IP Litigation Associate

    September 14, 2020

    Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property Litigation group has openings in our Boston and New York offices for a lawyer with a minimum of three years of experience in complex commercial litigation, preferably including litigation involving patent rights. The position will involve representation of biopharma manufacturers, research institutions and universities in patent, inventorship, licensing and other contract disputes before U.S. courts, in arbitral proceedings, in the International Trade Commission, and in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  Experience working with life sciences companies and/or universities is preferred. A science degree is desirable but not required.

  • International Trade and Investment Controls Lawyer

    September 8, 2020

    Foley Hoag is seeking a lawyer with significant experience in advising clients on the regulation of U.S. trade, with a focus on export controls including classification, licensing, and compliance regimes, and economic sanctions. In addition to advising clients on the application of trade regulations including EAR, ITAR, and OFAC regulations to their cross-border business operations, the ideal candidate would also assist clients in developing compliance programs and advising with respect to trade issues in pre-and post-acquisition due diligence, advising on voluntary disclosures related to trade compliance and applying and obtaining licenses, permission, and authorizations for the conduct of international trade. The candidate would likely be located in Foley Hoag’s D.C. office, but candidates will be considered in the Boston or New York offices.

  • Patent Agent - Computer Technology

    August 28, 2020

    Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property Department has an opening in our New York or Boston office for a Patent Agent with a background in Computer Science or a related field such as Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or Information Engineering.  We seek applicants with strong academic credentials, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and 3+ years of patent prosecution experience.  The position will involve representation of a variety of technology companies, ranging from startups to the Fortune 500, in patent prosecution related to software inventions. 

    An M.S. or M.Eng. in a relevant field, or a B.S. in a relevant field plus significant industry experience is preferred.  A general understanding of artificial intelligence concepts is required.  Technical experience in the areas of machine learning, image analysis, cryptography, or software architecture would be particularly useful.

  • Technology Specialist - Computer Technology

    Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property Department has an opening in our New York office for a Technology Specialist with a background in Computer Science or a related field such as Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or Information Engineering.  We seek applicants with strong academic credentials, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and 0-3 years of patent prosecution experience.  The position will involve representation of a variety of technology companies, ranging from startups to the Fortune 500, in patent prosecution related to software inventions.

    An M.S. or M.Eng. in a relevant field, or a B.S. in a relevant field coupled with relevant legal, industry, or technical writing experience, is preferred.  A successful candidate who is not already a registered patent agent will be expected to take and to pass the USPTO registration exam within a year of being hired.  A general understanding of artificial intelligence concepts is required.  Technical experience in the areas of machine learning, image analysis, cryptography, or software architecture would be particularly useful.

  • Life Sciences Business Counsel/Partner

    August 12, 2020

    Foley Hoag’s Life Sciences practice group has an opening in our Boston office for a lawyer with a minimum of eight years of experience representing emerging companies in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and/or medical device sectors.  Ideally, candidates will have experience negotiating and drafting agreements regarding venture capital financings and agreements regarding intellectual property rights, including patent license agreements with universities and collaboration agreements with pharmaceutical companies.  Experience representing clients at board of director meetings, as well as speaking on panels and at conferences is preferred.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with significant experience representing life sciences companies to play an important role in the expansion of our practice.  Portable billings are not required.
