This role requires the ability to provide support across our patent specific systems and our firm-wide billing system. The main responsibilities of this role are opening new clients and new matters for existing clients, ensuring that our billing system captures client specific reference numbers and resolving data discrepancies across our billing and patent specific systems.     A Patent Docketing Specialist must have a solid understanding of the United States, International, and various foreign Patent Office rules, procedures, and guidelines. He/she must be able to apply this information correctly when reviewing PTO submissions to ensure we are meeting the requirements set in the respective communications. The integrity of the information maintained in the system is vital to ensuring the legal staff meet critical deadlines.     Summary:

    The Patent Practice Assistant provides support to the patent prosecution practice group in meeting the duty of disclosure requirements. The primary responsibility of the patent practice assistant is to provide support on the prior art management process. This includes, but is not limited to: review of inbound mail for citations, indexing and cataloguing citations in our prior art management system, preparing draft Information Disclosure Statements and compiling copies of reference documents for filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The patent practice assistant can also provide support to the patent practice group attorneys on project-based work which can include data verification, date review, compiling claim sets and reviewing priority and subject matter related patent families.  The patent practice assistant must be available to work overtime when required to meet the workload demands of this position.

This position requires an independent and diplomatic individual, with prior experience in trademark prosecution, who could be based in either Boston or New York. The Senior Trademark Paralegal will work closely with attorneys, fellow paralegals, and docketing staff as part of our case teams. The Paralegal will support our trademark attorneys by conducting preliminary trademark searches, preparing and filing trademark prosecution and maintenance documents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (PTO), and corresponding with foreign associates to coordinate management of clients’ foreign trademark portfolios.
