Gecko Health Innovations is a development stage company that simplifies medication adherence to improve the quality of life of those using chronic medications. GeckoCap, the first product, is a smart button that attaches to existing inhalers and an online user interface that provides direct monitoring, games, and data visualizations.
John L. Brooks, III, President and Chief Executive Officer, Joslin Diabetes Center
Mr. Brooks is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Joslin Diabetes Center, the world’s leading diabetes research, clinical care, and education organization. Mr. Brooks has co-founded four life sciences companies, including Insulet, a disruptive insulin delivery company. He had been a principal of Healthcare Capital Consulting LLC, which advised early-stage life sciences companies, and he was a founder of Prism Venture Partners, a venture capital firm. Previously, he was a general manager at Pfizer/Valleylab, where he was responsible for Pfizer’s Hospital Products Group’s minimally invasive surgery and new medical technologies business. As President/General Manager at Pfizer/Strato, he led the growth of a rapidly evolving vascular access medical device business.
A native of Massachusetts, he holds an M.S. in Business and a B.B.A. cum laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and he is a Certified Public Accountant.
Jack Harkins, President and Co-Founder, Farm Design, Inc.
Jack takes responsibility for shaping Farm’s internal culture and developing business strategies for Farm’s service offerings and client programs. Involved in the industry for thirty five years, Jack’s focus has been in the areas of cardiovascular devices, diabetes care and laboratory instrumentation, among other medical specialties. Jack has led client programs for a number of biomedical startups and industry leaders, including Johnson & Johnson, Bayer and GE Healthcare. He has held positions on the board of advisors for the Design Management Institute (DMI) and as Chair of the Medical Section of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
Jack graduated with honors from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Julien R. Mininberg, President & Chief Executive Officer, Kaz, Inc.
Julien Mininberg is President & CEO of Kaz, Inc., a global leader in consumer medical devices, water purification and home appliances, which it sells in over 60 countries under the Vicks, Braun, PUR, Honeywell, and Febreze brand names. In 2010, Julien led the sale of Kaz to Helen of Troy Limited (Nasdaq: HELE). In 2012, Julien further expanded the business through the acquisition of the PUR water purification company. Kaz has grown over 50% to $700 million during his tenure, making up about half of Helen of Troy’s $1.3 billion in annual revenues.
Prior to joining Kaz, Julien was Procter & Gamble’s General Manager for Central America, headquartered in Guatemala. During his 15 years at P&G, he also served as General Manager for cleaning products in Latin America, based in its regional headquarters in Caracas, Venezuela; and as Marketing Director for laundry and cleaning products for Latin America, based in Mexico City. Before moving to Latin America, he worked at P&G’s global headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, in Brand Management for many of P&G’s U.S. Health Care brands.
A 1986 graduate of Yale College, Julien also graduated in 1990 from the Yale School of Management, where he serves on the Board of Advisor’s and is also President of its Alumni Association.
Alan D. Lucas, Senior Partner CMC Consulting Group – Boston
Alan has more than two decades of experience working with emerging healthcare companies and start-ups. He has served and consulted in business development and marketing in both large and small companies. His senior management and consulting experience includes execution of successful mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, private placements, and strategic plans. Alan has negotiated supplier agreements, distributor relationships, and marketing licensing agreements; and has directed market analysis, product specification, product launch, and sales management. In February 2010 he joined CMC Consulting Boston as a Partner specialized in the medical device market.
