Getting Real: A 'Video Podcast' Series: An Interview with John Murray

Hosted by Foley Hoag partner Veronica Renzi to generate dialogue among and build community with women lawyers

These days, we are looking at this widespread remote working scenario as an opportunity to enhance business relationships by reexamining professional boundaries and relying on means such as video conferences and phone calls. This "video podcast" series consists of discussions with female and male attorneys about issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope you find them interesting and helpful and we are grateful to all the lawyers who made time to talk with us.

Guest: John Murray, Partner, Foley Hoag LLP

In today’s episode, Veronica gets real with John Murray, partner in the White Collar Crime and Government Investigations Group at Foley Hoag and former enforcement attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.  John discusses the reality of life in New York during the COVID-19 pandemic and his perspective as a native New Yorker on how the city has reacted to the crisis.  He also shares his views on the SEC’s current enforcement priorities and how the pandemic has impacted the agency’s enforcement agenda.  In particular, John notes the SEC’s focus on public company disclosure and insider trading resulting from its view that the economic effects of the pandemic have heightened the risk of misrepresenting financial performance and trading on material non-public information.
