Foley Hoag Congratulates Partner Barry B. White for Nomination as U.S. Ambassador to Norway

August 10, 2009

The law firm of Foley Hoag LLP congratulates Partner Barry B. White, former Managing Partner and a senior member in the firm’s Business Department, on his recent nomination as U.S. Ambassador to Norway.  The nomination will now go before the Senate for confirmation.

“Barry has played a key role in shaping the success of Foley Hoag over the past forty years, helping to develop a national and international profile for the firm,” said Robby Sanoff, the firm’s current Co-Managing Partner.  “The same energy and passion that Barry brings to the firm is also evident in his commitment to the Boston community.  While we will miss his presence, we are proud to count Barry among our many alumni in public service and know that he will serve the United States with distinction.”

Mr. White, a senior member of the firm’s Business Department, maintained an active corporate and international practice and has been with the firm for 40 years.  While his practice focused on all industries, he has a particular emphasis on representing clients in the high technology area including investors.  He also was instrumental in the firm’s international practice group, prompting him to take a leadership role in Lex Mundi, an organization of more than 160 independent law firms across the globe.  Lex Mundi law firms provide member firms the ability to serve clients on a global basis through shared expertise and local market knowledge of nearly any jurisdiction in the world.  Membership is selective and limited to one firm per jurisdiction.  In addition, Mr. White maintains an active civic profile in the Boston area, working with the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and with Harvard Business School Professor Michael Porter’s Initiative for a Competitive Inner City.
