Foley Hoag Congratulates Boston Harbor Island Alliance on Opening New Downtown Pavilion
Partner Doug McGarrah Chairs the Boston Harbor Island Alliance Board

Foley Hoag LLP congratulates the Boston Harbor Island Alliance on the opening of the Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston.
Foley Hoag partner Doug McGarrah, the chair of the Boston Harbor Island Alliance Board of Directors, led the BHIA’s successful efforts to design, permit and construct the iconic structure in the heart of the city’s waterfront area. The pavilion, which opened June 2 and will serve as a visitor center and gateway to the islands, is the first building to be built on the Greenway, a stretch of parklands on the site of the former elevated Central Artery.
The Boston Harbor Island Alliance joined with the National Park Service and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to obtain the necessary legislation and approvals from various federal, state and local agencies to build the pavilion, including acts of Congress and the Massachusetts Legislature.
“The opening of this pavilion was a long time coming, and it is the result of the hard work and dedication of a number of people who want to make the Boston Harbor Islands and the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway vibrant places that everyone can enjoy,” said McGarrah, who has served on the Boston Harbor Island Alliance board since 2002. “I extend my gratitude to everyone who helped make the pavilion a reality, especially our designer, Tim Love of Utile, and our contractor, Turner Special Projects, and congratulate them on a job well done.”
The pavilion will sell ferry tickets and island-related merchandise, as well as provide information about the islands. Solar panels power the building, and it also captures and diverts rainwater to surrounding plantings.
