Rebecca Cazabon Named Foley Hoag Pro Bono Managing Attorney
June 22, 2011
Rebecca Cazabon has been named pro bono managing attorney for Foley Hoag LLP, where she will continue to perform a significant role in the firm’s pro bono program.
Cazabon, who joined Foley Hoag in 1998, oversees the pro bono work for many of the firm’s lawyers, and she also assists with the administration of Foley Hoag’s litigation training program. She previously was staff attorney for the firm’s pro bono program.
In addition, Cazabon represents domestic violence and sexual assault survivors and other low-income clients in Massachusetts district courts, probate and family courts, and superior courts, as well as before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. She is a 1998 graduate of The George Washington University Law School and a 1994 graduate of Wellesley College.
“Rebecca has worked tirelessly to coordinate the firm’s pro bono efforts and ensure that our clients receive the attention they deserve,” said Claire Laporte, a Foley Hoag partner and the firm’s pro bono coordinator. “She is a valuable member of our pro bono and litigation teams, and I look forward to continuing to work with her.”
In a typical year, Foley Hoag lawyers handle approximately 100 pro bono matters and contribute nearly 23,000 hours to the pro bono program. The American Lawyer has ranked the firm No. 25 out of the nation’s top 200 law firms in the magazine’s Pro Bono 100 report in 2009 and 2010.
Key areas that Foley Hoag lawyers serve on a pro bono basis include domestic violence, gay and lesbian rights, housing, environmental protection, disability rights, healthcare, prisoners’ rights, voting rights, immigration and political asylum, taxation, education and charter schools, transactional and corporate advice to nonprofit organizations and small for-profit businesses providing services to inner-city communities, advice to artists (including First Amendment protection), and domestic and international intellectual property protection.
