Michelle Limaj Appointed to MA Department of Public Health Clinical Laboratory Advisory Committee
March 19, 2012
Michelle Limaj, a business lawyer at Foley Hoag LLP, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Clinical Laboratory Advisory Committee.
State law established the 12-member committee to advise the Department of Public Health on establishing and enforcing requirements for the construction, maintenance and utilization of clinical laboratories, including performance standards for the examination of specimens. The committee is currently in the process of reviewing Massachusetts regulations to reduce redundancy with the Federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), a project tentatively scheduled to be completed this year.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has regular interactions with a number of Foley Hoag attorneys, including partner Colin Zick.
“Given the rapidly increasing number of laboratories in Massachusetts, especially those that are subject to CLIA, the Clinical Laboratory Advisory Committee is going to play a key role in the development of this important sector of the Massachusetts economy,” Colin said.
An associate in the firm’s Life Sciences Practice Group, Michelle serves a large number of clients with products in the pre-clinical and clinical stages of development. In addition to drafting and negotiating sponsored research and clinical trial agreements, her practice includes technology licensing, marketing and distribution arrangements, securities transactions and general corporate representation of early stage companies in the life sciences and alternative energy sectors.
Before transitioning to law, Michelle worked for nearly a decade with international organizations including the United Nations, the International Organization for Migration and Physicians for Human Rights. She has an MA in International Relations from the University of Southern California and earned her JD from Boston College Law School. Michelle also serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations.
