Foley Hoag Partner Seth Jaffe Named President of the American College of Environmental Lawyers
Will Lead Organization for One-Year Term Through Fall 2014

Foley Hoag partner Seth D. Jaffe, Chair of the firm’s Administrative Law Department and Coordinator of the Environmental Practice Group, has been named President of a leading national association of environmental lawyers.
A veteran of more than 25 years in environmental law, Jaffe assumed the presidency of the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL) on Oct. 11. Previously the Secretary of the College, he was named President-elect at the College’s annual meeting in the fall of 2012, and his term will run to the fall of 2014.
The American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL) is a professional association of lawyers dedicated to maintaining and improving the ethical practice of environmental law, the administration of justice and the development of environmental law at both the state and federal level. Membership is by invitation only to lawyers who have practiced environmental law for at least 15 years and whose practice for the past five years has been at least 50 percent in environmental law.
Jaffe’s areas of environmental expertise include litigation, compliance and transactional work. The focus of his practice is representation of both traditional and renewable energy producers. He also has significant experience representing property owners in Superfund and brownfields matters.
Jaffe is regularly ranked among top environmental lawyers in the U.S. by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America and Massachusetts SuperLawyers, and was recently named Boston Litigation - Environmental “Lawyer of the Year” for 2014 by Best Lawyers. He received an individual recommendation on environmental affairs from PLC Which Lawyer, which also ranked Foley Hoag as a leading environmental law firm.
