Foley Hoag Partner Lisa Wood Receives John Minor Wisdom Public Interest and Professionalism Award from the ABA Section of Litigation
April 14, 2014
Foley Hoag LLP partner Lisa Wood was the recipient of the 2014 John Minor Wisdom Public Interest and Professionalism Award, presented by The American Bar Association Section of Litigation. The award, given on April 10 during the Section’s Annual Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, recognizes Wood’s long-term "passionate, effective and infectious" leadership and advocacy both in Massachusetts and nationally on access to justice issues.
“Lisa is well-deserving of this award for her continued dedication and passion for access to justice,” said Foley Hoag Co-Managing Partner William Kolb. “Not only is she a skilled litigator and bar leader, but throughout her career she has generously given her time and effort to state and national legal services and pro bono communities.”
As Co-Chair of Foley Hoag's Litigation Department, Wood handles complex business litigation and government investigations, principally in the areas of securities fraud, accountants liability, and antitrust. She is an active participant in the firm’s pro bono efforts, representing clients such as Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts of Massachusetts, Institute for OneWorld Health, Children’s Law Center of Massachusetts and Renewable Energy New England. Wood also mentors Foley Hoag associates on pro bono special education matters, and has spent thousands of hours on charitable and access to justice initiatives.
The John Minor Wisdom Public Interest and Professionalism Award was established in 1990 to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the quality of justice in their communities. It is named for The Honorable John Minor Wisdom - best known for his landmark decisions ordering and implementing desegregation in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Brown vs. Education. In accepting the award, Wood noted that Judge Wisdom had been praised for his "conspicuous contributions to American jurisprudence," and challenged attendees to carry forward his legacy by being "conspicuous advocates for access to justice" in the United States.
