Foley Hoag Co-Managing Partner Adam P. Kahn Elected as Fellow of American College of Environmental Lawyers

Inductees recognized as best practitioners in their field.

October 2, 2014

Foley Hoag LLP Co-Managing Partner Adam P. Kahn has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL), a professional association of distinguished attorneys who practice in the field of environmental law.

Formed in 2007, ACOEL is a professional association of lawyers dedicated to maintaining and improving the ethical practice of environmental law, the administration of justice and the development of environmental law at both the state and federal level. Membership is by invitation only to lawyers who have practiced environmental law for at least 15 years and whose practice for the past five years has been at least 50 percent in environmental law; it is limited to practitioners who are considered to be the best lawyers in each state or jurisdiction of the United States.

Foley Hoag is one of only a very few law firms nationwide to have more than one partner selected for ACOEL membership. Seth Jaffe, coordinator of the firm’s Environmental Practice Group, is the current president of ACOEL.

Kahn’s broad environmental practice extends to resolution of complex issues facing renewable and conventional energy facilities; permitting of industrial and commercial projects; resolution of private disputes and government enforcement actions involving environmental matters; transactions; and Brownfields redevelopment. He also counsels clients on emerging environmental issues ranging from climate change and greenhouse gas regulation to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Along with his extensive domestic practice, Kahn actively works in the arena of international environmental law, including as part of a team representing clients on environmental matters before the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Kahn is regularly ranked among top environmental lawyers in the country by Chambers USA and The Best Lawyers in America. He was recently named Best Lawyers' 2015 Boston Litigation - Environmental "Lawyer of the Year," bestowed only to a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area.
