Five Foley Hoag Partners Named “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers 2015
Recognition reflects individual abilities, professionalism and integrity, as determined by peers.
September 10, 2014
Best Lawyers has named Foley Hoag partners David Halstead, Julia Huston, Seth Jaffe, Adam Kahn and Kenneth Leonetti as 2015 “Lawyers of the Year.” The distinction is presented annually to one stand-out lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area. Selections are based on voting averages received during exhaustive peer-review assessments conducted by Best Lawyers with thousands of lawyers each year.
Halstead, Boston’s Biotechnology Law “Lawyer of the Year,” is a partner in the firm's Intellectual Property Department. He works with clients in the biotechnology, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries on a wide range of intellectual property issues, helping them protect ground-breaking technologies and navigate competitive patents in the face of a constantly changing legal environment for patents. Using his understanding of the regulatory environment for pharmaceutical and biotech products, Halstead also advises clients regarding product life-cycle management.
Huston, Boston’s Trademark Law “Lawyer of the Year,” is a partner in Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property and Litigation Departments, Chair of the firm’s Trademark, Copyright and Unfair Competition practice group, and Co-Chair of the Advertising and Marketing practice group. She is consistently ranked in the top tier of Massachusetts trademark attorneys in Worldwide Trademark Review's WTR 1000 Ranking. Huston has been named president of the Boston Bar Association (BBA) for a one-year term, effective September 1.
Jaffe, Boston’s Environmental Law “Lawyer of the Year,” is a partner and Chair of the firm's Administrative Law Department, and coordinates the Environmental Practice Group. He is a leading practitioner in environmental compliance and related litigation. Jaffe serves as the President of the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL), and was previously honored by Best Lawyers as Boston’s Environmental Litigation “Lawyer of the Year” in 2013 and Boston's Environmental Law "Lawyer of the Year" in 2010.
Kahn, Boston’s Environmental Litigation “Lawyer of the Year,” has a broad environmental practice that extends to resolution of complex issues facing renewable and conventional energy facilities; permitting of energy, industrial and commercial projects; resolution of private disputes and government enforcement actions involving environmental matters; transactions; and Brownfields redevelopment. He also counsels clients on emerging environmental issues ranging from climate change and greenhouse gas regulation to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Along with his extensive domestic practice, Kahn actively works in the arena of international environmental law, including as part of a team representing clients on environmental matters before the International Court of Justice in The Hague. He was recently elected a Fellow of the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL). In addition to his legal practice, Kahn serves as Foley Hoag's Co-Managing Partner and as a member of its Executive Committee.
Leonetti, Boston’s Bankruptcy Litigation “Lawyer of the Year,” is a litigation partner who focuses on bankruptcy and corporate restructuring; complex financial litigation; and trade secret, software and licensing disputes. In bankruptcy matters, he represents debtors, committees, secured creditors and third parties in reorganizations, workouts and adversary proceedings. His practice spans all phases of corporate restructuring and commercial litigation, with a particular emphasis on high profile and bankruptcy-related litigation.
Receiving "Lawyer of the Year" recognition by Best Lawyers reflects the high level of respect a lawyer has earned among other leading lawyers in the same communities and practice areas for their abilities, professionalism and integrity.
Best Lawyers is known as the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession. The 2015 edition - which lists 29 Foley Hoag attorneys - recognizes lawyers in 137 practice areas, covering all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
