Foley Hoag LLP partners Mary Beth Gentleman and Seth Jaffe will speak at the 11th Annual Conference on Energy in the Northeast, titled “New Policies and Incentives: Innovative Projects and Changing Markets,” being held September 8-9, 2014 in Boston, Mass.
This event, which widely attracts attorneys, industry executives, governmental officials, customer representatives and consultants involved with energy issues in the Northeast, will focus on recent changes to laws, regulations and markets and the pressing reliability issues in New England.
Gentleman, who co-chairs Foley Hoag's Energy & Cleantech Practice Group and also serves as conference co-chair, will provide introductory remarks at the beginning of the two-day event. The following day, she will speak on "Northeast Legal Headlines in Energy Development," assessing important news items pertaining to energy development in the Northeast.
Jaffe, who chairs the firm's Administrative Law Department and serves as coordinator of the Environmental Practice Group, will moderate a panel entitled "Federal Environmental Issues Driving the Electricity and Gas Industries," offering an overview of Obama Administration initiatives and resulting court challenges regarding carbon emissions. This panel discussion will offer varying perspectives on air issues, including the Administration's emission regulations, and the impact of federal initiatives on energy infrastructure development.
Other topics of discussion will include wholesale electric market updates and key issues facing ISO-NE and NYISO; natural gas market updates; the Massachusetts Governors' proposal to invest in strategic infrastructure and address price disparities; legal issues arising from state-legislated wholesale purchases of clean energy by utilities; state policy priorities regarding FERC order 1000 implementation; distributed generation and micro-grids to islands of reliability during disasters; and federal environmental issues driving the electricity and gas industries.
