American Law Institute Elects Foley Hoag's David Geiger to Join Esteemed Membership
April 28, 2015
Foley Hoag LLP partner David R. Geiger, a premier civil litigator recognized by The Best Lawyers in America, New England SuperLawyers and Who’s Who Legal for his accomplishments, has been elected to the American Law Institute (ALI). Established in 1923, it is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law.
With election to the ALI, Geiger will have the opportunity to influence the development of law in both existing and emerging areas; work with other eminent lawyers, judges, and academics; give back to the legal profession; and contribute to the public good. Geiger served for seven years as deputy chair and chair of Foley Hoag’s Litigation Department, and since 1989 has headed the firm’s Product Liability and Complex Tort Practice Group.
The ALI elects individuals who reflect the excellence and diversity of today's legal profession. Membership in the American Law Institute is a distinct professional honor, with the number elected limited to 3,000 (not including life, honorary, and ex-officio members).
ALI President Roberta Cooper Ramo said of the current elections: “This extraordinary group joins the institute as the first class of new members in which the membership committee had advice and nominations from our recently created 16 regional advisory groups. I am proud and confident that these new members will strengthen and broaden our intellectual bench, and that their distinguished accomplishments and diverse experience will advance our mission and our work.”
“Dave has absolutely earned this honor,” said Michael Boudett, Co-Chair of Foley Hoag’s Litigation Department. “His background and abilities give me great confidence that he will make a fine addition to this distinguished organization and will be a great resource and advocate working for the betterment of our legal system.”
