Recognition reflects individual abilities, professionalism and integrity, as determined by peers.
August 27, 2015
Best Lawyers has named Foley Hoag partners Mary Beth Gentleman and Seth Jaffe as 2016 “Lawyers of the Year.” The distinction is presented annually to one stand-out lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area. Selections are based on voting averages received during exhaustive peer-review assessments conducted by Best Lawyers with thousands of lawyers each year.
Gentleman, Boston’s Energy Law “Lawyer of the Year,” is a Co-Chair of Foley Hoag's Energy & Cleantech Practice Group. She provides regulatory and strategic advice to developers and owners of conventional and distributed generation, transmission and LNG facilities and energy technology start-ups. In 2013, she was the recipient of the NEWIEE Achievement Award from the New England Women in Energy and Environment organization.
Jaffe, Boston’s Environmental Litigation “Lawyer of the Year,” is a coordinator of the firm's Environmental Practice Group. He is a leading practitioner in environmental compliance and related litigation. Jaffe was previously honored by Best Lawyers as Boston's Environmental Law "Lawyer of the Year" in 2010 and 2015, and Boston’s Environmental Litigation “Lawyer of the Year” in 2013.
Receiving "Lawyer of the Year" recognition by Best Lawyers reflects the high level of respect a lawyer has earned among other leading lawyers in the same communities and practice areas for their abilities, professionalism and integrity.
Best Lawyers is known as the oldest peer-review publication in the legal profession. The 2016 edition - which lists 32 Foley Hoag attorneys - recognizes lawyers in 140 practice areas, covering all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
