Foley Hoag Partner Mélida Hodgson to Speak at ICSID Conference

Foley Hoag LLP partner Mélida Hodgson will speak at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID)-Xi’an Jiaotong University Conference “ICSID at 50: The Evolution of International Investment Treaties and Dispute Resolution,” on November 26, 2015 at the Empark Grand Hotel, Xi'an, People's Republic of China.

Hodgson’s panel, “Procedural Innovations,” will focus on the evolution of procedural provisions used in investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS). Topics of discussion will include techniques to expedite cases, early dismissal of frivolous claims, non-disputing party participation, the role of amicus curiae and the State in treaty interpretation.

Joining Hodgson as panelists are Dr. Alejandro Carballo, Energy Charter Secretariat; Professor Joongi Kim, Yonsei Law School, Seoul, Korea; Toby Landau, QC, Essex Court Chambers; Yu-Jin Tay, DLA Piper; Meg Kinnear, Secretary-General, ICSID; and Yu Jianlong, Secretary-General, CIETAC.

Hodgson is a member of Foley Hoag's International Litigation and Arbitration group, and is resident in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. She focuses her practice on investor-State and commercial arbitrations, as well as counseling governments and state-owned entities with respect to international investment protection obligations, World Trade Organization dispute resolution and international trade policy issues.
