Foley Hoag Partner Mélida Hodgson to Speak at 13th ICC Miami Conference

Foley Hoag LLP partner Mélida Hodgson will speak at the 13th International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Miami Conference, taking place November 1-3 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami, Florida. The event offers a forum for reviewing international commercial arbitration in Latin America, and will feature a series of roundtables, meetings and discussions led by top professionals. This year’s conference theme is “Tooling up for International Arbitration.”

Hodgson’s panel, “The Law as a Primary Tool,” will examine such topics as the law and rules applicable to the arbitration agreement and jurisdictional issues in view of latest case law; the law applicable to ancillary issues, such as incorporation of companies, powers of attorney and other issues of representation; the law applicable to the standard of proof and evaluation of evidence; and laws potentially relevant in cases involving States. Joining Hodgson as panelists will be Bernardo Wayar, Executive Director, Wayar y Von Borries Abogados (Bolivia); Marike Paulsson, University of Miami Law School, Juan Pablo Cárdenas Mejía, Arbitrator, Professor of Contracts (Colombia); and Rodrigo Zamora Etcharren, Partner, Bufete Zamora Pierce (Mexico).

Hodgson is a member of Foley Hoag's International Litigation and Arbitration group, and is resident in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. She focuses her practice on investor-State and commercial arbitrations, as well as counseling governments and state-owned entities with respect to international investment protection obligations, World Trade Organization dispute resolution and international trade policy issues.
