Foley Hoag Receives Perfect Score in Human Rights Campaign's 2017 Corporate Equality Index

December 12, 2016

Foley Hoag is pleased to announce its perfect score ranking on the Human Rights Campaign's 2017 Corporate Equality Index. Businesses achieving a rating of 100 percent in the report are recognized by the Human Rights Campaign as a “Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality."

Foley Hoag earned the 100 percent rating as a result of its commitment to four main criteria as described by the Human Rights Campaign: providing equal benefits for same-sex partners and spouses; no benefits discrimination for transgender employees and dependents; demonstrating a firmwide organizational competency on LGBT issues; and demonstrating a firmwide public commitment to the LGBT community.

“We are pleased to once again achieve a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index,” said Adam Kahn, co-managing partner and chair of the firm’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion. “Foley Hoag strives to provide a workplace where lawyers and staff of all sexual orientations and gender identities or expressions are welcome and included.”

Foley Hoag has been advocating for civil rights for gay, lesbian and transgender people for decades. It has represented LGBT people in domestic violence cases for many years and has represented transgender prisoners in vindicating their civil rights.

LGBT rights continues to be a major focus of Foley Hoag’s pro bono program. In April 2016, a lawsuit filed by Foley Hoag, Justice in Aging and GLAD on behalf of two plaintiffs and a proposed nationwide class resulted in improvements to overpayment collection practices by the Social Security Administration for LGBT couples receiving Social Security income.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, the organization strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
