Foley Hoag Partner Michael Keating Honored with Named Fund by Boston Foundation
June 30, 2016
In honor of Foley Hoag LLP partner Michael Keating's seven years of service as Chair of its Board of Directors, the Boston Foundation recently announced plans to establish a $1 million fund entitled “The Michael B. Keating Fund for Justice and Social Equity.” This recognition comes as Keating steps down after 11 years of service on the Board, effective June 30.
“My service as Chair of the Boston Foundation has been among the most satisfying experiences of my life,” said Keating. “I am truly humbled by the creation of the Michael B. Keating Fund for Justice and Social Equity, and the spirit in which it was established. I take great pride in the support of my colleagues on the Board, the extraordinary work of our staff and the invaluable service the Foundation provides to this community."
The fund named after Keating will be a flexible fund within the Foundation’s endowment, the Permanent Fund for Boston, which supports all of the Foundation’s work in the Greater Boston area.
“The phrase ‘for Justice and Social Equity’ reflects what Mike has championed throughout his career,” said Boston Foundation President and CEO Paul S. Grogan. "He was the consummate Board chair who led the organization with skill and grace through a time of remarkable change and growing impact.”
Keating served on the Boston Foundation board since 2005. He is past Chairman of Foley Hoag’s Litigation Department and has been a noted trial lawyer for over thirty years. He is a past President of the Boston Bar Association.
The Boston Foundation, Greater Boston’s community foundation, is one of the largest community foundations in the nation, with net assets reaching $1 billion. It is a partner in philanthropy, with more than 1,000 separate charitable funds established by donors either for the general benefit of the community or for special purposes. The Boston Foundation also serves as a major civic leader, think tank and advocacy organization, commissioning research into critical issues and helping shape public policy designed to advance opportunity for everyone in Greater Boston.
