Foley Hoag Attorney Constantinos Salonidis to Speak at KLRCA International Investment Arbitration Conference
March 3, 2016
Foley Hoag LLP attorney Constantinos Salonidis will speak at The Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) International Investment Arbitration Conference, being held March 10-11, 2016 at the Bangunan Sulaiman, Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The conference - the first of its kind in Asia - includes international and national keynote and plenary speakers addressing complex issues raised by investor-State arbitration, with a particular focus on the Asia Pacific region following the signing of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).
Salonidis’ panel, “Investment Arbitration-The Practitioner’s Point of View,” will feature presentations by prominent practitioners in investment treaty arbitration on issues such as unmeritorious claims, investment protection in the oil and gas sector, and investor-State dispute settlement under the TTPA. His presentation will focus on the jurisdiction ratione temporis of investment treaty tribunals, and in particular will provide an analysis of established trends in light of the most recent Ping An v. Belgium award, in which Foley Hoag and a partner firm turned aside a $2 billion claim against the Belgian government by Chinese insurer Ping An on grounds of the tribunal’s lack of jurisdiction ratione temporis over the investor’s claims.
Salonidis is a senior International Associate in the International Litigation and Arbitration Practice of Foley Hoag’s Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on international dispute resolution, especially in cases involving the representation of sovereign clients before arbitration panels administered under the ICSID and UNCITRAL and Arbitration Rules.
Established in 1978, the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration provides institutional support as a neutral and independent venue for the conduct of domestic and international arbitration proceedings in Asia.
