Foley Hoag Attorney Constantinos Salonidis to Speak at Global Economic Law Network’s Second Biennial Symposium

May 11, 2016

Foley Hoag LLP attorney Constantinos Salonidis will speak at the Global Economic Law Network’s second biennial symposium, being held at The Melbourne Law School, The University of Melbourne, Australia on May 19 and 20, 2016. This year’s conference, “The Age of Mega-Regionals: TPP and Regulatory Autonomy in International Economic Law,” will feature a range of topics related to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), other mega-regionals, and regulatory autonomy in international trade and investment law.

Salonidis’ presentation will focus on the Philip Morris v. Uruguay case, in which a Foley Hoag team, including Salonidis, represents Uruguay. He will provide a brief overview of the case and Philip Morris’ claims challenging two tobacco control measures under the Bilateral Investment Treaty between Uruguay and Switzerland, with a particular emphasis on Uruguay’s defenses premised on its sovereign right and duty to regulate the tobacco industry to protect public health.

Salonidis is a senior International Associate in the International Litigation and Arbitration Practice of Foley Hoag’s Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on international dispute resolution, especially in cases involving the representation of sovereign clients before arbitration panels administered under the ICSID and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules.

The Global Economic Law Network (GELN) provides a forum for academics and those working in GELN’s focus areas of international trade law, international investment law, international finance law and international arbitration to keep abreast of new developments in their field.
