Foley Hoag LLP partner Barbara Fiacco has been elected as Second Vice President of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), a national bar association of approximately 14,000 members. Fiacco was installed in her position at AIPLA’s 2016 Annual Meeting, held October 27-29 in Washington, D.C.

A longtime active member of AIPLA, Fiacco previously served on the Association’s Board of Directors and as Chair of the Legislation, Patent Law and Membership committees. She has also been recognized in Managing Intellectual Property's Top 250 Women in IP, and in the 2015 IAM Patent 1000 - The World's Leading Patent Professionals.

As a member of Foley Hoag's Intellectual Property Department, Fiacco represents clients in complex intellectual property and patent litigation matters. Her technology-related practice focuses on the biomedical field, including counsel to companies with activities focusing on recombinant DNA, monoclonal antibodies, small molecule compounds, drug delivery, molecular diagnostics, and medical devices.

Formed in 1897, AIPLA is a national bar association that strives to maintain a high standard of professional ethics; aid in the improvement in laws relating to intellectual property and in their proper interpretation by the courts; and provide legal education to the public and to its members on intellectual property issues. AIPLA represents a wide and diverse spectrum of individuals from law firms, companies and institutions involved directly or indirectly in the practice of patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition law, as well as other fields of law affecting intellectual property.
