September 26, 2016

Folly Hoag partner Mélida Hodgson and senior associate Tafadzwa Pasipanodya will participate in the workshop “Getting Into and Ahead in International Arbitration” to be held at the Tillar House in Washington, D.C. on Monday, September 26, 2016. The program is jointly organized by the BASIL Task Force of the American Society of International Law and Young ICCA.

Hodgson will speak on a panel titled “Mentorship in International Arbitration,” where she and her fellow panelists will offer advice on finding and being good mentors. Pasipanodya will moderate a panel titled “Building a Successful Career in International Arbitration,” where the panelists will discuss steps one can take to pursue a career in international arbitration.

Hodgson focuses her practice at Foley Hoag on investor-State and commercial arbitrations, as well as counseling governments and state-owned entities with respect to international investment protection obligations, World Trade Organization dispute resolution and international trade policy issues. Pasipanodya represents sovereign States in contentious and advisory matters concerning international law. Her practice is focused on advising States in investor-State arbitrations and State-to-State disputes concerning mineral resources, environmental harm, territorial and maritime claims, as well as human rights.

Created in 2014, Blacks of the American Society of International Law’s (BASIL) mission is to affirm, fortify, and evolve the long-standing tradition of Black international lawyers, jurists, and academics in the United States and increase the number of Black international law students, lawyers, and academics.

Established in 2010, Young ICCA is a world-wide arbitration knowledge network for young practitioners and students aimed at promoting the use of arbitration by exposing new practitioners from all corners of the globe to the international practice of arbitration.
