Foley Hoag Attorney Sudhanshu Roy To Speak at CCSI and Republic of Indonesia Conference on International Investment Agreements

February 24, 2017

Foley Hoag LLP international lawyer Sudhanshu Roy will speak at “Developments in International Investment Agreements” on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Columbia University in New York.  The program, hosted by the Republic of Indonesia in collaboration with Columbia University’s Center for Sustainable Investment (CCSI), will focus on the complex and pressing issues related to attracting and governing sustainable foreign direct investment with respect to the use and scope of international investment agreements (IIAs).

Roy will participate in the conference’s opening panel on “Investment Liberalization,” which will review trends relating to investment treaties as liberalization tools, and examine approaches states have taken to protect policy space to govern entry and establishment. The panel will also address policy choices available to governments when faced with the decision to commit to IIAs to remove restrictions on foreign investment in their economies or provide protections for foreign investors seeking to enter their markets.

Roy is a member of Foley Hoag’s International Litigation and Arbitration Department. His practice focuses on investor-state arbitrations, especially in cases involving the representation of sovereign clients before arbitration panels administered under the ICSID and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules.

The Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment is an independent non-profit academic center established in 2008.  It is the only university-based applied research center and forum dedicated to the study, practice and discussion of sustainable international investment.
