Foley Hoag Attorney Barbara Fiacco to Speak at Life Sciences Patent Network North America

May 31, 2017

Foley Hoag LLP partner Barbara Fiacco will be a featured speaker and moderator at the Life Sciences Patent Network North America conference, being held June 1, 2017 in Boston. The conference will bring together an audience of intellectual property and licensing heads from established and fledgling pharma and biotech companies, along with private practice attorneys and service providers.

Fiacco, who currently serves as Second Vice President of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), will first take part in the "U.S. Patent Enforcement Outlook" session. She and fellow panelists will discuss the future U.S. patent landscape and what is on the horizon in the courts and in Congress, including legislative reform on subject-matter eligibility. Fiacco will be joined by Scott Alban, Vice President, Global Intellectual Property at AstraZeneca and Kimya Harris, Senior Director, Intellectual Property, R&D at ImmunoGen.

Afterwards, Fiacco will moderated a biologics panel discussion entitled "Championing Cutting Edge Innovation with Robust Patent Protection, which will cover such topics as ensuring effective protection for antibodies, using trade secrets protection rather than patenting, and biosimilar applicants join in the 'patent dance.'

As a member of Foley Hoag's Intellectual Property Department, Fiacco represents clients in complex intellectual property and patent litigation matters. Her technology-related practice focuses on the biomedical field, including counsel to companies with activities focusing on recombinant DNA, monoclonal antibodies, small molecule compounds, drug delivery, molecular diagnostics, and medical devices.

Fiacco was elected as Second Vice President of AIPLA, a national bar association of approximately 14,000 members, in October 2016.
