Foley Hoag Partners Kenneth Figueroa and Derek Smith to Participate at International Conference on New York Convention

Foley Hoag LLP partners Kenneth Figueroa and Derek Smith will take part in the “60 Years of the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, Key Issues and Future Challenges,” an international conference taking place April 5-6, 2018 in Seville, Spain. The event is co-organized by Loyola University Andalusia, Zaragoza University, Club Español de Arbitraje, and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.
Figueroa will speak on a panel titled “Deference to Nullity?: The New York Convention and Enforcement of Annulled Awards,” examining the grounds for refusal under the New York Convention. Smith's panel topic, "Applicability of the New York Convention to Investment Treaty Awards," will address challenges to recognition and enforcement of investment treaty awards under Article V(1)(c) of the New York Convention.
Smith and Figueroa are members of Foley Hoag’s International Litigation and Arbitration Practice, focusing on international disputes, particularly investor-State matters, commercial arbitration and sovereign representation. They primarily represent foreign States and State-owned entities before U.S. federal courts and international arbitral tribunals, including those established under the auspices of the ICSID, ICC and ICDR.
