Foley Hoag LLP has once again been given the top ranking in Public International Law by Chambers and Partners Global 2018. This marks the sixth time in eight years the firm has been ranked in Band 1, the highest rating provided by Chambers Global. The firm also earned a Band 1 ranking in Business & Human Rights Law.
In the Public International Law category, Chambers Global reports that, according to clients, "the outstanding lawyers from Foley Hoag" have a "deep dedication to client interests, keen sensitivity and excellent capacity to organise a multifaceted international litigation." Clients also cited that the firm's international litigation and arbitration group operates "a great state-to-state practice," is notably "very seasoned in Law of the Sea files," handles work "carefully and thoroughly" and is "excellent both on the legal arguments and the overall strategy" of its cases.
Partner Paul Reichler, who chairs Foley Hoag's International Litigation and Arbitration Department, is described as having "an extremely high profile in the field of international dispute resolution." Reichler is referred as "the dean of ICJ cases" by Chambers Global commentators, who also report "he has excellent knowledge of the legal instruments at play - and of the jurisprudence, which he has helped shape."
Partner Lawrence Martin, who serves as Deputy Chair of the International Litigation and Arbitration Department, earned strong praise for his work as sovereign-side counsel in Law of the Sea and international environmental disputes. Interviewed clients recognize him as "a very thoughtful and knowledgeable partner" with a "seemingly limitless capacity to work, boundless enthusiasm and great energy."
In addition, the following attorneys were recognized by Chambers Global as Foreign Experts in their respective areas of proficiency: Hery Frédéric Ranjeva, Dispute Resolution - France, Foreign Expert for Madagascar, and General Business Law - Madagascar, Foreign Expert Based in France ("his name counts for a lot," earns respect for his "knowledge of how Madagascar works"); Alberto Wray, Dispute Resolution - Ecuador, Foreign Expert Based in USA ("a very good lawyer, one of the best there is"); and Daniel Schimmel, International Arbitration - USA, Foreign Expert for France.
