Foley Hoag Attorney Constantinos Salonidis Serving as Director of Studies at The Hague Academy of International Law 2018 Summer Session

July 19, 2018

Constantinos Salonidis, an international counsel in Foley Hoag LLP’s International Litigation and Arbitration practice, is serving as Director of Studies in English for the summer 2018 Public International Law session at The Hague Academy of International Law in The Hague, the Netherlands. As Director of Studies, Salonidis is preparing  English-speaking students entering for the Academy’s Diploma in Public International Law examination.

The examination is extremely selective and the Diploma is awarded only very sparingly. Constantinos was the sole recipient of the Diploma in 2006.

"The Hague Academy of International Law's stature is recognized by everyone with a professional or academic interest in international law," said Paul Reichler, Chair of Foley Hoag's International Litigation and Arbitration Department. "Constantinos' appointment as Director of Studies for the 2018 summer courses in Public International Law is a great honor for him, and also for our firm’s International Litigation and Arbitration Department, which specializes in advising States on matters of Public International Law."

The general course of the summer 2018 session, "Public International Law from a Practical Perspective - Advocating a Theory of Reality," is being taught by Professor Alain Pellet, Emeritus Professor at Paris-Nanterre University. Salonidis' directed studies centers on the “Professionalization of International Law,” as evidenced in procedural and substantive aspects of international adjudication and arbitration.

Salonidis' legal practice focuses on international dispute resolution, especially in cases before the International Court of Justice and arbitration panels administered under the ICSID, UNCITRAL and ICC Arbitration Rules, and associated proceedings in various jurisdictions, where he represents exclusively sovereign clients. He also regularly advises sovereign clients and private parties on a wide range of private and public international law issues, including maritime delimitation and other law of the sea issues, title to territory, treaty negotiation, challenge of arbitral awards, and regulatory compliance with obligations arising from international investment treaties.
