Foley Hoag Partner Tafadzwa Pasipanodya to Speak at 50th UNCITRAL and 60th New York Convention Anniversaries Conference

Foley Hoag LLP partner Tafadzwa Pasipanodya will be a featured speaker at the 50th UNCITRAL and 60th New York Convention Anniversaries Conference, taking place on June 14-15 in Abuja, Nigeria. The conference, themed “Contribution of United Nations & UNCITRAL in International Trade Law Harmonization & Dispute Settlement,” is a celebration of the contributions of the United Nations and UNCITRAL in the area of international trade law.
Pasipanodya will give a lecture titled “ISDS Reform in Light of Recent Discussions in Working Group III - A Universal Discussion,” addressing investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) reform in the context of the trade, investment and economic development goals that motivated both the development of UNCITRAL over 50 years ago and the conclusion of international investment agreements since then. Her remarks will focus on the six primary concerns with the ISDS system and efforts underway to reform the system at the universal, regional, bilateral and national levels.
As a member of Foley Hoag’s International Litigation and Arbitration Department, Pasipanodya represents sovereign States in contentious and advisory matters concerning international law. Her practice is focused on advising States in investor-State arbitrations and State-to-State disputes concerning mineral resources, environmental harm, territorial and maritime claims, as well as human rights.
UNCITRAL is a United Nations Commission that makes regulations for the modernization and harmonization of rules on international business and sets standards that govern international trade. The New York Convention is an international treaty for the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards. It is a global instrument used in settling international business and commercial disputes.
