November 6, 2018

Foley Hoag LLP partner Diana Paraguacuto-Mahéo will be a featured speaker at the International Bar Association conference “New Frontiers of ADR: From Commercial and Investment Matters to Regulatory Violations,” taking place November 6-7, 2018 in Montreal.

This event will cover the growing success and new challenges of international mediation; the crisis of investor-state disputes; negotiated settlements in regulatory matters as a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution; and comparative approaches to ethics, transparency, third party funding and financial interests in arbitration and mediation proceedings.

Paraguacuto-Mahéo will speak at the concluding session, “Comparative Approaches to Ethics, Transparency, Third Party Funding and Financial Interests in Arbitration and Mediation Proceedings.” Her presentation will examine the various scenarios in which corruption can arise in the context of international arbitrations and mediations. She will also analyze the roles of parties, counsel, tribunals and mediators in effectively preventing and combatting corruption in such proceedings, and discuss the dichotomy between confidentiality and transparency.

As a member of Foley Hoag's International Litigation & Arbitration Department, Paraguacuto-Mahéo specializes in international arbitration and litigation, alternative dispute resolution and sovereign representation.
