Foley Hoag Attorney Christina Hioureas to Speak at Berkeley Law Conference Commemorating David Caron

September 12, 2018

Foley Hoag LLP counsel and United Nations practice chair Christina Hioureas will present at “The Elegance of International Law: A Conference in Commemoration of Professor Emeritus David D. Caron ’83,” on September 15, 2018 in Berkeley, CA. The conference, organized by UC Berkeley’s Miller Institute for Global Challenges and the Law, honors the life and work of Caron (1952-2018), a prominent international law expert who served as a Berkeley Law professor for 26 years.

Hioureas will speak on the International Dispute Resolution panel. Her presentation, titled “The Singapore Convention on the Enforcement of Agreements Achieved Through International Mediation: A New Way Forward?,” will focus on the recent uptick in dialogue regarding international mediation and conciliation and whether it can emerge as a viable alternative to international arbitration. She will examine whether the Singapore Convention will serve as the catalyst for the use of this alternative form of dispute resolution.

Hioureas is a member of Foley Hoag's International Litigation and Arbitration Department. She represents States, private and State-owned entities, and individuals in international disputes and public international law matters, and also advises States on matters before the United Nations and its bodies.

The Miller Institute for Global Challenges and the Law is an internationally focused research and policy center at the University of California Berkeley School of Law. Through interdisciplinary collaborations and institutional partnerships, the institute addresses urgent challenges that demand innovative global approaches, including promoting the rule of law, climate and energy justice, anti-corruption and human rights.
