Foley Hoag Counsel Christina Hioureas to Speak on Panel at UN in Anticipation of the Singapore Convention on Mediation
April 4, 2019
Foley Hoag LLP counsel and United Nations practice chair Christina Hioureas will be a featured speaker on April 5, 2019 at a side event taking place on the margins of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Working Group III meeting on investor State dispute resolution reform.
Hioureas will speak on “The Singapore Convention on Mediation: Expert Perspectives on its Significance for the Future of Dispute Resolution” – a program organized by the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce and the Republic of Singapore. The event will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on April 5, 2019.
This program will provide an opportunity for UN delegates to hear expert perspectives on the anticipated United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation (the Singapore Convention) and its associated model law.
Participants will examine the development, scope and significance of the Singapore Convention for commercial disputes. They will evaluate the use of mediation as an alternative or supplement to investment disputes and will explore the role arbitral institutions can play in mediating settlements.
As a member of the firm's International Litigation & Arbitration Department, Hioureas represents States, private and State-owned entities, and individuals on international disputes and public international law matters, and advises States on matters before the United Nations and its bodies.
