Foley Hoag Attorneys Co-Author Chapter on International Trade and Social and Environmental Responsibility for Wolters Kluwer France Compendium
March 29, 2019
Foley Hoag LLP partner Daniel Schimmel and associates Shrutih Tewarie and Alejandra Torres Camprubí have written a chapter in Le Lamy: Contrats Internationaux, a collective work released in French by Wolters Kluwer France.
Their chapter, entitled “Commerce international et responsabilité sociale et environnementale: un référentiel au normes?,” is divided into two sections. In the first section, Schimmel and Tewarie discuss international anti-corruption investigations and compliance programs and their impact on international trade. Law enforcement’s increased scrutiny in this area has led to the development of a market for international compliance programs.
The second section examines linkages between international trade and environmental damages. Schimmel and Torres Camprubí analyze whether the development of international instruments for the protection of the global environment (in particular, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Convention for the Protection of Biological Diversity, and their respective Protocols) have had a restrictive effect on international trade, or whether they have transformed commercial practices and even promoted the creation of new international global markets.
This new edition of the encyclopedic Le Lamy provides comprehensive coverage of all aspects of international contracts, including a detailed analysis of applicable EU and international instruments and clauses. It also offers commentary from a variety of contributors with vast experience in the field as private practitioners and academics.
Schimmel, Tewarie and Torres Camprubí are members of the firm’s International Litigation & Arbitration practice.
