Foley Hoag Partner Daniel Schimmel to Speak at Extraterritorial Proceedings Conference at the French Parliament
October 22, 2019
Foley Hoag LLP partner Daniel Schimmel will be a featured speaker at “Extraterritorial Proceedings,” a conference taking place at the French Parliament in Paris on October 25, 2019.
The conference will gather senior judges, government officials, general counsel and heads of litigation for major corporations, and address the current efforts of the French government to extend the attorney-client privilege to in-house counsel. The French Attorney General will deliver opening remarks.
In his presentation, Schimmel will discuss how French companies are frequently at a disadvantage in U.S. litigation and investigations because the communications of in-house lawyers are not privileged, oftentimes resulting in higher litigation costs. He will also highlight the practical benefits of extending the attorney-client privilege to French in-house lawyers.
Schimmel leads the International Arbitration & Litigation Practice of Foley Hoag’s New York office. He represents clients, including major French and other European groups in international commercial litigation in the United States and international corruption investigations.
