Foley Hoag is strengthening its capital markets platform with the addition of partner Steven Burwell, formerly of Deutsche Bank. He will be resident in the firm’s New York office.
Burwell will focus on corporate and securities law matters and public company representation across all industries, including technology, healthcare and life sciences.
Prior to joining Foley Hoag, Burwell had a nearly 16-year career at Deutsche Bank, holding various legal positions within the organization. His most recent role was Managing Director and Associate General Counsel, Head of Corporate Finance/Global Capital Markets Legal in the Americas, in which he served as the head lawyer for Deutsche Bank’s capital markets, corporate finance and M&A matters in the Americas.
“We are very pleased to have Steve join the firm,” said Foley Hoag Co-Managing Partner Jeffrey Collins. “The perspective that he will bring from his years at Deutsche Bank further enhances our sophisticated capital markets practice and our ability to serve our clients at all stages of growth.”
Within the equity capital markets space, Burwell has done initial public offerings, follow-on offerings, secondary offerings, block trades, Rule 144 sales, private placements, registered directs, PIPEs and convertible bond/preferred offerings. He also has considerable experience working on cross border transactions for European, Asian and Latin American issuers selling securities in the U.S.
“Steve's extensive knowledge of the financial markets and the investment banking industry will bring tremendous value to our clients,” said Stacie Aarestad, partner and Co-Chair of Foley Hoag’s Capital Markets practice. “He is an exciting addition to the team.”
Burwell earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College and a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School.
