Senior Policy Director Constance Garner Named to National Academy of Social Insurance Task Force

February 26, 2021

Foley Hoag LLP Senior Policy Director Constance Garner has been named to the National Academy of Social Insurance Task Force on Retirement Security for Older Workers. The task force will use the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program as a model to assess options for a broader set of older workers who are no longer able to perform their jobs.

The task force will bring together a diverse group of 10-12 experts on Social Security administration, disability, retirement security, and other fields to assess such options. Keeping in mind the existing burdens on the DI system, it will ensure no added burden or harm, while identifying strategies to improve retirement security for older workers dealing with physically demanding work. The task force expects to issue a full report in the summer of 2021 that will document current challenges, including the impact of COVID-19, and provide policy options to improve support for older workers.

As Senior Policy Director in Foley Hoag’s Washington, D.C. office, Garner focuses her practice on policy development, implementation, and advocacy strategy related to vulnerable populations. Her areas of expertise include health care, disability, mental health and substance use disorders, long-term care and education policy.
