Foley Hoag Recognized in American Lawyer List of Top 15 Impactful Pro Bono Matters of 2020

July 6, 2021

As part of this year’s Pro Bono Scorecard feature, The American Lawyer selected a Foley Hoag LLP matter as one of 15 representing the very best of the legal industry’s pro bono efforts in 2020. According to the publication, "These examples demonstrate Big Law’s capacity to make a difference in the lives of their pro bono clients."

The American Lawyer wrote:

"Foley Hoag: After President Donald Trump issued an executive order that proposed sanctions against officials of the International Criminal Court, which investigates and prosecutes war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity, Foley Hoag obtained a preliminary injunction on behalf of the Open Society Justice Initiative and four law professors who argued their freedom of speech was unconstitutionally violated by the order, preventing them from aiding the ICC in pursuit of human rights and international justice."

Foley Hoag previously shared details of this matter in October, 2020.

“We are very pleased that our firm has been highlighted by The American Lawyer as having helmed a most impactful pro bono matter of 2020,” said Foley Hoag Pro Bono Managing Attorney Rebecca Cazabon. “Foley Hoag has been at the forefront of efforts to provide quality legal representation to disadvantaged and disfavored individuals and groups whose civil rights and liberties are threatened. This accolade is a testament to our ongoing commitment to pro bono work, especially our endeavors to protect constitutional rights.”
