Foley Hoag Receives Top Rankings for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Achievements
August 3, 2022
Foley Hoag LLP recently received recognition from three prominent legal publications for its continued commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Law360 Pulse ranked Foley Hoag eighth on its Diversity Snapshot for mid-sized law firms, noting the firm’s “sharp improvement” in diversity among U.S. attorneys from 19% to 24%.
That achievement follows other recent top rankings by Vault Law and The National Law Journal (NLJ) for excellence in DE&I. Vault Law named Foley Hoag as a Top 30 firm in all three of its diversity categories: Diversity for Women, Racial & Ethnic Diversity, and Diversity for LGBTQ+ individuals. The firm was also included in NLJ’s inaugural LGBTQ Scorecard, an assessment of the impact open sexual and gender minorities have in some of the nation’s largest law firms. Earlier this year, Foley Hoag earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign's 2022 Corporate Equality Index, and was named a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality.”
“Foley Hoag’s work on DE&I is a core value that traces back to the firm’s founding nearly 80 years ago,” said Managing Partner Jim Bucking. “We are dedicated to building a law firm that reflects the diverse communities and clients it serves, and we are consistently striving to expand opportunities for all people no matter their race, color, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. This prestigious series of honors shows we’re continuing on our successful path.”
Foley Hoag’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion has its roots in the firm’s three founding partners, who each belonged to a different religion at a time when other Boston firms were religiously homogeneous. These values remain guiding forces in the firm’s culture today. In addition to actively hiring and retaining diverse attorneys and business services professionals, Foley Hoag has introduced an unlimited DE&I and Legal Recruiting billable credit policy as part of an aggressive multi-year strategy to bolster DE&I efforts and create a welcoming environment. There are many ways that attorneys are involved with DE&I at the firm, including serving on the DE&I committee, planning and organizing DE&I-related presentations and events, participating in affinity groups or DE&I taskforces, representing the firm at recruiting events, DE&I-focused mentoring, and attending DE&I training programs.
“These rankings reaffirm our devotion to fostering and maintaining an inclusive and welcoming culture for everyone – no matter their background,” said Foley Hoag Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Rosa J. Nuñez. “DE&I at Foley Hoag is a journey not a destination, which is why we are constantly reviewing and refining our hiring processes – while working with our current teams to maintain a truly equitable and inclusive workplace.”
