Michael Hoven is a litigator with experience in complex civil litigation, administrative appeals, and government and independent investigations. He has represented professional services clients and technology companies in litigation in trial and appellate courts as well as in government investigations. Michael also counsels clients on health care issues and related regulatory obligations.

Michael has an active pro bono practice and has represented clients in state and federal courts, primarily in the areas of housing and criminal law.

Representative Experience

  • Represent government-appointed monitor of international financial institution in three-year monitorship pursuant to a Deferred Prosecution Agreement.
  • Represent plaintiff in challenging the award of a gaming license.
  • Represent research institute in patent inventorship litigation concerning cancer immunotherapy.
  • Obtained favorable settlement for plaintiffs in federal Fair Housing Act case against major East Coast based multi-state rental company.
  • Conducted an independent investigation reviewing allegations of sexual abuse at an independent school and the school’s leaders response to those allegations.
  • Conducted internal investigation for area hospital reviewing allegations of professional misconduct by physician.
  • Successfully defended attorney in trial court and appellate court from sanctions motion.
  • Represented technology company in tax matter before the Supreme Judicial Court.Represented clients in investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Justice, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
  • Successfully represented defendant in patent inventorship dispute by winning motion to dismiss.
