Dan Lewallen is an associate and registered patent attorney in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. Dan has represented clients with preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications in the areas of pharmaceuticals, organic chemistry, materials science, and chemical biology. Dan also prepares freedom-to-operate and patentability opinions.

Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Dan earned his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati. His research focused on synthesizing carbohydrate ligands for detecting pathogens. Dan was also a postdoctoral associate at the Scripps Research Institute in Florida where he focused on chemical biology and developing assays for high-throughput screening and at the IU School of Medicine where he focused on covalent inhibitors of protein tyrosine phosphatases.
