Catherine Muyl is a partner in Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property Department, resident in the Paris office. She has practiced intellectual property law for more than 20 years, focusing on litigation with regards to patent, trademark, copyright, registered designs and models, software and related rights (including databases).

Catherine has provided representation involving infringement cases, cancellation actions and actions for the transfer of ownership of patents. Her practice also includes trademark prosecution, domain name disputes (including UDRP procedures) and procedures before the French and European Union Offices. Catherine has worked on several international disputes, with proceedings pending in several countries.

Representative Experience

  • Handled several cases for a multinational technology company, two of which dealt with an alleged violation of the French Data Protection Act and a high-profile trademark dispute.
  • Handled a complex patent dispute for a multinational corporation that is one of the world's largest oil field services companies. The resulting litigation gave rise to 17 decisions, 15 of which were successful.
  • Worked on a significant M&A deal which included the negotiation of the license of the VIRGIN trademark.
