The Trustees of the Foley Hoag Foundation are pleased to announce that grants totaling $119,000 have been awarded to 19 organizations this fall as part of the 2022 fall grant cycle. When added to our spring grant round and special housing grant round from this summer, the Foundation made 60 grants totaling $475,000 in 2022.
The organizations that the Foundation has funded are all dedicated to working to improve social equality by increasing access to the arts, stimulating community engagement, providing legal services, offering educational programming and assistance, or running youth development programs.
The grantees are based in Boston, New York City, and Washington, D.C., and are as follows:
BOSTON
- Boston City Lights Foundation – for an international performance and education tour and intensive arts camp for Boston youth in Maine.
- Castle of Our Skins – to create and distribute educational publications that combine music, illustrations, and poetry to educate youth about important themes in Black history and culture.
- Education Through Music – Massachusetts – to partner with Boston Public Schools to create, sustain, and improve existing music programs.
- MusiConnects – to provide in-school and after school music education and mentorship to Boston Public School students.
- Apollinaire Theatre – to support a youth arts education program with classes in acting, dance, visual art, and play production.
- Allston Brighton Health Collaborative – to support a Community Supported Agriculture program for low-income community members.
- Cambridge Women’s Center – for a drop-in center program that provides a space for women, particularly those unhoused or struggling with trauma.
- Anaya Tipnis Foundation – to expand a college graduation support program, which offers financial assistance, mentoring, internship opportunities, and a peer support network to students.
- The Heart of a Giant Foundation – to provide community members with culturally responsive blood pressure screening, home medical device training, and health education.
- Sisters Unchained – to support a summer leadership program that provides a healing and educational space for young women and girls with incarcerated parents.
NEW YORK CITY
- Dancing in the Streets – to support a Bronx-based street dance professional development program.
- Open Door NJNY – to purchase exam prep materials for a GED/TASC prep program.
- Teachers Unite – to create and support the implementation of a bilingual, restorative justice toolkit for educators, youth, and school community members.
- Kings County Tennis League – to provide children facing physical and financial barriers the opportunity to play tennis, specifically its GoGirlGo! Program.
WASHINGTON, D.C.
- Educational Theatre Company – to facilitate workshops and develop performances that encourage discussions surrounding race and racism.
- Common Good City Farm – to expand programming that combats food insecurity in the community and to train urban farmers.
- An Open Book Foundation – to bring children and young adult authors and illustrators to four Title I schools.
- Future Link – to provide personalized, long-term wraparound services to first-generation college students.
- Gearin’ Up Bicycles – to assist in acquiring a fully equipped, portable workbench to support bicycle educations for youth of color.
