Speaking Engagement

NACUA Annual Conference

July 02, 2026

Partner Rachel Beller will speak on the panel, “Extracting Value from University IP Assets: Potential Partnerships Structures and Transactions” at the NACUA Annual Conference. University intellectual property can be a significant institutional asset, but extracting value from it requires navigating questions of identification, ownership, funding restrictions, and internal governance before a deal is finalized.

This panel will cover the full lifecycle:
  • Identifying IP sources and establishing internal policies;
  • Structuring licenses with faculty inventors and outside startups;
  • Multi-university collaborations and unique arrangements involving patent litigation funders and IP asset aggregators;
  • Royalty monetization transactions in which the rights to receive incoming royalty streams on licensed products are sold; and
  • Practical guidance on deal terms, royalty determination, risk mitigation strategies, and lessons from successful university IP commercialization efforts.
Partners Madeleine Rodriguez, Emily Nash, and Hampton Dellinger will also be in attendance.
