December 04, 2015

Foley Hoag LLP partners Clara Brillembourg and Mélida Hodgson will participate in the 32nd Annual Joint Colloquium on International Arbitration, taking place at The World Bank - Preston Auditorium in Washington, D.C. on December 11.  This year's theme is "Modernization of Arbitration - New Approaches to Continuing Challenges."

Brillembourg will speak on a panel concerning, “Effective Deliberation for Arbitrators and the Role of Counsel and Institutional Secretaries,” and will focus on how to make the organization of a hearing more effective. Hodgson’s panel, “Appellate and Review Mechanisms,” will address review mechanisms in commercial arbitration and possible elements of appellate bodies in investor-State dispute settlement.

Brillembourg and Hodgson are members of Foley Hoag's International Litigation and Arbitration group, and are resident in the Washington, D.C. office.

Brillembourg specializes in advising sovereign States in international disputes with other States, foreign investors and U.S. plaintiffs. She has extensive experience representing sovereigns in investment arbitrations before the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and other prominent arbitral fora.  Her State-State practice focuses on disputes before the International Court of Justice, the Permanent Court of Arbitration, and the UN Tribunal on the Law of the Sea.

Hodgson focuses her practice on investor-State and commercial arbitrations, as well as counseling governments and state-owned entities with respect to international investment protection obligations, World Trade Organization dispute resolution and international trade policy issues.

The Joint Colloquium on International Arbitration is co-organized by the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).  Since 1983, the three organizations have banded together to offer a series of joint colloquia to discuss various topics relating to international commercial and investment arbitration.
