Foley Hoag LLP partners Joseph Basile and Andrew Loewenstein will participate in the ABA Section of International Law 2016 Spring Meeting, taking place at the Grand Hyatt New York, April 12-16, 2016. The conference will feature over 70 panels focused on this year’s theme of “Liberty and Justice Under International Law.”

Basile will take part in a session titled “Under Siege: Shareholder Activism, Governance Turmoil & Pressured Boards and Deals,” during which he and fellow panelists will review recent market and legal developments affecting various forms of activism and offer insights on how activist goals, strategies and tactics are likely to evolve.

Loewenstein will moderate “The International Court of Justice at 70,” where panelists will review The International Court of Justice (ICJ) as a judicial institution and explore the jurisprudence of the past 10 years.

Basile is Co-Chair of Foley Hoag’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practice Group and Vice Chair of the International M&A and Joint Ventures Committee of the ABA Section of International Law. His practice includes hostile and negotiated public company, private company and distressed M&A transactions, as well as counselling publicly held companies regarding strategies for engagement with activist shareholders, corporate governance, and securities law matters.

Loewenstein is a partner with Foley Hoag’s International Litigation and Arbitration Department, where he focuses on public international law as well as investor-state and international commercial disputes.
