Foley Hoag LLP has promoted Christopher R.K. Cawley and Joshua S. Jarvis to the firm’s partnership, effective January 1.
The new partners add depth to Foley Hoag’s practices in domestic and international business law; intellectual property; taxation; licensing and strategic alliances; and advertising and marketing. Their practices strengthen the firm’s representation of clients in the Energy & Cleantech, Life Sciences, Healthcare, and Technology industries.

- Kip Cawley has extensive experience in advising clients on a wide variety of tax matters relating to domestic and international business transactions. His practice includes providing counsel to corporations, partnerships and business owners with respect to tax issues relating to mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings and operations. He also helps investment managers, investors and withholding agents to comply with international withholding and reporting regimes such as FATCA and the OECD Common Reporting Standard. Mr. Cawley has considerable experience representing taxpayers before the IRS, state and local tax authorities, and the U.S. Tax Court.
- Joshua Jarvis focuses his practice on intellectual property matters, with an emphasis on trademark and copyright strategy, including prosecution, policing, ownership, licensing, and use, as well as related matters such as false advertising, right of publicity, and commercial disparagement. Mr. Jarvis represents clients in trademark and copyright registration matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Copyright Office, transactional matters related to intellectual property, and a wide range of intellectual property matters related to the Internet and social media, including domain name strategy and disputes.
