Foley Hoag LLP attorneys Daniel Schimmel, Christina Beharry and Ofilio Mayorga are scheduled to speak at International Law Weekend (ILW) 2019, taking place on October 10-12, 2019 at Fordham University School of Law in New York. This year’s theme is “The Resilience of International Law.”
Schimmel will join the “Competition and Convergence in International Dispute Resolution” panel, discussing the recent development of international commercial courts, and whether the work of these courts, and developments in international commercial arbitration, reflect a convergence of international standards in the resolution of business disputes.
Beharry will participate in the “Return of the State in International Trade and Investment Law” panel. She will examine recent developments in trade and investment law, with a focus on the potential collapse of the WTO Appellate Body, the effort to create a multilateral investment court, and the increasing prominence of national security in trade disputes.
Mayorga will serve as moderator of “Environmental Protection Before International Courts and Tribunals: Challenges and Opportunities,” a panel focusing on what is, or should be, the role of international courts and tribunals in the protection of the environment.
Schimmel, Beharry and Mayorga are members of the firm’s International Litigation & Arbitration Department.
ILW 2019 is organized by the American Branch of the International Law Association in collaboration with the International Law Students Association.
