Christina Hioureas, ICJ Climate Change Decision Nominated for GAR Awards 2026

A case in which Foley Hoag’s International Litigation and Arbitration Department (ILAD) was involved and Partner Christina Hioureas, ILAD co-chair and UN practice group chair, have been nominated for two 2026 Global Arbitration Review Awards. Voting is open here until Friday, January 30, 2026. 

In the “Most Important Decision” category, the landmark July 2025 advisory opinion on climate change from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has been nominated, in which Foley Hoag lawyers acted for several vulnerable states. The Foley Hoag team included current and former attorneys and paralegals, including Hioureas, Andrew Loewenstein, Tafadzwa Pasipanodya, Diem Huong Ho, Juan Pablo Hugues Arthur, Sun Young Hwang, Peter Tzeng, Iulia Padeanu Mellon, Pablo Nilo, Juan Francisco Fernández Garcés, Nour Nicolas, Alexander Small, Katie Weiner, Jennifer Schoppmann, and Muhammad Syed.

Hioureas has been nominated in the “Best Lecture or Speech” category, for her lecture on “Small Nations and the Role of International Law,” delivered in Nicosia, Cyprus and later adapted for mid-career professionals at Stanford Law School, which outlined a “Small-Nation Toolkit” on how legal strategies, anchored in jurisdiction, appropriately sequenced, and integrated with diplomacy can empower small nations faced with challenges from global powers.
